my daughter is a moon

my daughter is a moon

that howls at itself

words don't yet form behind her teeth

and yet she bares them

chin tilted up

mouth spread wide

she roars, delighted with

the genius of her body

fascinated by

her power to transform

into a fierce and wicked thing

hands held overhead, i was going to tell you — was going to

describe what wasn't there — until

i remembered

the chubby palms don't stretch to a god

in the clouds

but hang down at her side,

fingers pointing toward earth
