Letter from the Editors

Dearest Cordella Community,

You haven’t heard from us for a while. What can we say? It’s been a hard season. Now, mid-January, like little mushrooms coming forth from dirt and moss, we’re waking up. Emerging. Things seem new in the half-light of winter and there’s a clarity in the starkness of the trees. Blinkingly, we’re finding a clear vision for ourselves and for this project. Thank you for sticking with us as we grow.

The artists and creators featured in Issue 17, Emergence, reflect on coming to the other side of something, on walking forward and looking back. They write about change, they share their music, they teach us their healing practices. As always, we are inspired by their ability to listen and create. Most of all, we are grateful to them for sharing their emergence with us.

One thing we know to be true is that emerging is easier in community, though it’s never easy. We know that trees communicate to each other through their root systems. Maybe they are nudging each other along: bud now, now’s the time. Thank you for your patience and kindness as we find our footing. We hope you savor each piece and feel a sense of connected emergence.

Warmly,

Jordan Souza, Prose Editor
